Glen Scotia
Of the roughly 30 distilleries that once operated in Campbeltown, Glen Scotia is one of only three to have survived the region's great die-off. Few Scottish distilleries can match its turbulent, often precarious history – closed multiple times, given up for dead more than once, and yet always returning.
Glen Scotia stands for a maritime, salty, lightly smoky coastal style that makes the distillery's closeness to the sea immediately apparent in the glass. From the approachable Double Cask to the aged 15 Year Old, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

Why has Glen Scotia been declared dead so many times?
Glen Scotia was founded in 1832 by Stewart, Galbraith & Co. and initially flourished alongside Campbeltown's roughly 30 distilleries during the Victorian boom. In 1919, the distillery passed to West Highland Malt Distillers Ltd., which went bankrupt shortly afterwards, dragging several other Campbeltown distilleries down with it. A rescue attempt in 1924 by former director Duncan MacCallum ended tragically with his suicide in nearby Crosshill Loch – the same loch Glen Scotia still draws its brewing water from today. Local legend holds that his ghost still haunts the distillery.
The turbulence continued afterwards: production ran only on a limited basis from 1979 to 1982 due to renovation work, and despite modernisation, the distillery closed again in 1984. Gibson International took over in 1989 and reopened it, but likewise failed and filed for bankruptcy in 1994. Glen Scotia was finally saved by its purchase by Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse: production resumed in 1999, and since 2000 the Loch Lomond Distillery Co. has run the distillery.
Is Glen Scotia really the last survivor alongside Springbank?
For a long time, Glen Scotia was considered one of only two remaining Campbeltown distilleries alongside Springbank. Since the Glengyle distillery reopened in 2004 – the first new distillery founded in Campbeltown in over 100 years – the region has once again officially counted three active distilleries: Glen Scotia, Springbank, and Glengyle (bottled under the name Kilkerran).
Overview of the most popular bottlings
1. Glen Scotia Double Cask
The most accessible way into the distillery's coastal style.
Taste: Salty and maritime with light spice and a touch of smoke.
Serving suggestion: A good introduction to Campbeltown malts.
2. Glen Scotia 15 Year Old
The distillery's aged core bottling.
Taste: Full-bodied and spicy with fresh sea breeze and light ginger on the finish.
Serving suggestion: For anyone seeking the classic Campbeltown character with a little more depth.
