In 2020, French luxury group LVMH, through its Moët Hennessy division, took an unusual step: a partnership with Cuba's state rum monopoly, Cuba Ron, which had already been deliberately laying down stocks of mature rum for a new premium project. Under the guidance of César Martí, at 32 Cuba's youngest maestro ronero, Eminente was created - a rum deliberately styled on the fuller-bodied 19th-century tradition rather than today's more common lighter Cuban profile. The distinctively ribbed bottle traces the outline of Cuba in the shape of a crocodile - a nod to the island's native Cuban crocodile and its affectionate nickname, "el cocodrilo".

LVMH, through its Moët Hennessy division, was looking for a versatile premium rum and found favourable conditions: Cuba's state rum monopoly, Cuba Ron, had already been laying down mature rum stocks for a new flagship product, leading to Eminente's founding in 2020.
