House of Hazelwood
For almost a century, the Gordon family – the Scotch whisky dynasty behind William Grant & Sons – laid down rare casks of whisky purely for private consumption at their family seat, Hazelwood House in Dufftown. It was only in 2022 that the family decided to share this unique collection, built up over seven decades, with the wider public for the first time.
Since then, exceptionally rare whiskies from every corner of Scotland have been released in small, hand-selected batches under the House of Hazelwood name. As this is a limited private collection with no ongoing production, the range changes quickly and is often only available for a short time.
How did a private cask collection become a public whisky brand?
The Gordon family, the dynasty behind the whisky giant William Grant & Sons, laid down exceptional casks of whisky at their Hazelwood House estate in Dufftown, Speyside, for almost a century – initially purely for their own enjoyment and special family occasions. Over time, the collection grew so extensive that it became impossible for a single family to consume it alone. In 2022, the decision was therefore made to release selected stocks to the public for the first time under the House of Hazelwood name.
What makes the collection so special?
The collection spans seven decades and virtually every region of Scotland – from Speyside to the Highlands to the Islands. As this is a limited, historically accumulated private collection rather than an ongoing production, new batches are released irregularly and often only in small quantities, such as the 1992 vintage blended malt introduced in 2026.
