Uitvlught

Founded around 1750 on the western bank of the Demerara River in Guyana, the Uitvlugt distillery still bears the mark of the wealthy merchant and plantation owner Ignatius Charles Bourda - the historic distillery mark "ICBU" on old casks still recalls him today. After nationalisation in 1979, Uitvlugt became part of Demerara Distillers Ltd. and, over the course of the 20th century, even took over the storied stills of the closed neighbouring distilleries Port Mourant and Versailles - wooden constructions that no longer exist anywhere else. When Uitvlugt itself finally closed in December 1999, these historic stills moved on to the Diamond Distillery, where they still shape the distinctive Demerara rum style today.

Taste: Full-bodied and bold with dark molasses sweetness; a Syrah wine cask finish adds a pronounced, wonderfully fruity note.
