Glenturret
Officially founded in 1775, with documented illicit distilling on the site as early as 1717, Glenturret describes itself as Scotland's oldest working distillery. Since March 2019, it has belonged to Glenturret Holding, a joint venture between the Swiss Lalique Group (Silvio Denz) and entrepreneur Hansjörg Wyss.
Glenturret stands for a nutty, malty, creamy and oily Highland style, and is also home to what is probably the world's most famous distillery cat: "Towser" caught a documented 28,899 mice over 24 years of life, earning a place in the Guinness Book of Records. From the Glenturret Triple Wood to the more mature 12 Year Old, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

Is Glenturret really Scotland's oldest distillery?
Today's Glenturret distillery was founded as the "Hosh Distillery", most likely in 1775 – a date still displayed on the distillery's labels. Illicit distilling is said to have taken place on the site as early as 1717. In 1875, the Hosh Distillery took on the name "Glenturret" from a former neighbouring distillery. When numerous distilleries along the River Turret had to close during the economically difficult first half of the 19th century, Glenturret was the only one to survive. The distillery was completely mothballed from 1929 to 1959, until James Fairlie acquired it in 1957 and resumed production in 1960. The title "Scotland's oldest distillery", however, is also claimed by other distilleries such as Littlemill or Strathisla.
How did a luxury group change Glenturret's direction?
In 1981, Remy Cointreau came on board as an investor and built one of Scotland's first visitor centres. In 1990, Glenturret passed to Highland Distillers, who were taken over by the Edrington Group in 1999 – under whose leadership the focus long lay on the group's Famous Grouse blends, to the point that the visitor centre was even named "The Famous Grouse Experience". It was only the sale to Glenturret Holding in March 2019 – a joint venture between the crystal and luxury goods specialist Lalique Group and entrepreneur Hansjörg Wyss – that brought the focus back to Glenturret as a standalone premium brand: since 2020, the distillery has released its own annual core range of six single malts.
Overview of the most popular bottlings

2. Glenturret 12 Year Old
The more mature variant of the core range.
Taste: Oily and smooth with deepened vanilla and biscuit notes.
Serving suggestion: For anyone wanting the house style in a more mature form.
