Ron Millonario
In 1904, several farmers in Chiclayo in northern Peru joined forces to market their sugar together, building a small refinery for the purpose. In 1922, the Piera de Castillo family, led by Don Rolando, bought the estate along with its sugar cane plantation, and in 1938 a ship arrived in Peru from London carrying a Scottish column still - the technical foundation for an entirely new rum. In 1950, the first Ron Millonario finally reached the market under the young Augusto Piera de Castillo: so exquisite, and initially so expensive, that locals jokingly called it "por los millonarios" - for the millionaires. The nickname became the official brand name and remains a symbol of Peruvian rum excellence to this day.

Where does the name "Millonario" come from?
When the rum launched in 1950, its high price meant only a few could afford it at first - locals jokingly called it "por los millonarios" (for the millionaires). That nickname became the official brand name.
What does a Scottish still have to do with Peruvian rum?
In 1938, the Piera de Castillo family had a column still specially shipped from Scotland to Peru to modernise cane distillation - the technical foundation on which the first Ron Millonario was built in 1950.
Flavour profile
Taste: Full-bodied and soft with tropical fruit, caramel and an elegant, nutty wood spice - typical of the refined Peruvian rum style.
Recommended enjoyment: Neat or on the rocks as a digestif, to enjoy the complexity of the solera maturation.
Start with Ron Millonario Número 15 Reserva Especial.
