Portrait: What makes the Glen Scotia Double Cask Rum Cask Finish special
Glen Scotia Double Cask Rum Cask Finish is the charming adventurer in the Glen Scotia family - the brother, so to speak, who spontaneously booked the Caribbean after a tasting and Straw hat and sunburn.
The traditional Glen Scotia distillery hails from Campbeltown, a small Scottish coastal town that was once the Whisky Capital of the World – with more distilleries than inhabitants (it feels like). Today, Glen Scotia is one of the last three active distilleries there - and is known for venturing out of the box.
With the Rum Cask Finish, Glen Scotia is now launching the first bottling in a new series of exceptional finishes. After traditional maturation in first-fill bourbon casks, this single malt is allowed to rest for at least eight months in former Demerara rum casks from Guyana. You could say: From the Scottish rain to the tropical rum blessing.
The result is a whisky for explorers, the curious, and anyone who enjoys their spirits with a little humor. A bottle that says: "I'm a single malt - but I've also slept under palm trees."
In short: Glen Scotia Double Cask Rum Cask Finish is proof that tradition and a thirst for adventure go together wonderfully - and that even a Scotsman can sniff rum without losing his honor.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Glen Scotia Double Cask Rum Cask Finish tastes like
- Nose: An inviting, sweet bouquet opens the tasting: sugar, molasses, and ripe tropical fruits dominate the nose - aromas of candied pineapple, overripe banana, and a hint of exotic spice clearly reveal the rum cask - without masking the elegance typical of Glen Scotia
- Palate: On the palate, the whisky is full-bodied and pleasantly sweet - the tropical influences continue: coconut, juicy banana, and sweet peach characterize the flavor - the texture is creamy and smooth, with a beautiful balance between fruit and sweetness
- Finish: The finish is long, almost oily, and leaves a lasting impression - a salty, maritime character blends with ripe fruit notes and fine hints of spice - a subtle reminder of Campbeltown's coastal location remains, as does a hint of exotic faraway places
