Ardnamurchan
In 2012, independent bottler Adelphi received the building licence for a new distillery on the remote west coast of the Scottish Highlands - the name Ardnamurchan traces back to an older distillery of the same name, which was actually located in the Lowlands and had once, for a time, belonged to the ancestors of Adelphi's founders. Today's distillery on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, operating since 2014, fits its name geographically far better. Particularly notable is its consistent sustainability concept: the distillery draws electricity from its own hydroelectric plant on the same river that also supplies its cooling systems, while a biomass boiler fired with local wood heats the pot stills.
