Peat's Beast

Around 2010, Eamonn Jones, former regional director at Whyte & Mackay, and his long-time importer Gerald Erdrich set out to create a single malt that would embody the pure, unadulterated essence of peat smoke like no other. Together with the late Mark Graham as blender and well-known whisky figures Richard Paterson and Aidan Smith, they developed the first Peat's Beast bottling in 2011 – limited to 5,000 bottles.

The brand is released by independent bottler Fox Fitzgerald, which deliberately keeps the exact source distillery a secret to this day. From Peat's Beast Original to Batch Strength, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

How did the idea for a "peat monster" come about?

Eamonn Jones, a long-time regional director at Whyte & Mackay, teamed up with his importer Gerald Erdrich to create a single malt that would push the intensely smoky character of classic Islay malts to the extreme. Together with distiller Mark Graham, label designer Doug Alves, and renowned whisky experts Richard Paterson and Aidan Smith, they developed the recipe by 2011 – the first batch comprised 5,000 bottles.

Why does the source distillery remain a secret?

Peat's Beast is released by independent bottler Fox Fitzgerald, which deliberately does not reveal which distillery the distillate comes from. The brand itself points out that peat is by no means used only on Islay, but traditionally also in the Highlands, the Islands, and Speyside – a hint that the source may not be Islay at all, as is often assumed.
