Legendario was founded in 1946 in Havana's historic Bocoy district and produces its distillate using a special filtration process through quartz sand and activated charcoal, yielding a raw spirit of over 50% alcohol. The rum then matures for at least a year – certain blends for up to six years – in American oak casks. Since 1998, the company CEXVAL has distributed Legendario to Spain and the rest of the world; the brand is now produced across six factories in the provinces of Matanzas, Villa Clara, Havana, and Pinar del Río.
