Royal Brackla
Founded in 1812 by Captain William Fraser on the Cawdor Castle estate, the distillery was named official purveyor to the royal court by King William IV in 1835 – a privilege since shared only with Royal Lochnagar and the now-demolished Glenury Royal. That makes Royal Brackla the very first distillery ever granted the "Royal" prefix by a British monarch.
Royal Brackla stands for a refined, distinctly fruity Highland style, ideally suited as an aperitif. From the Royal Brackla 18 Year Old to the more mature 21 Year Old, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

Why can hardly any distillery call itself "Royal"?
The "Royal" prefix may only be used by distilleries explicitly granted that right by the monarchy. In 1835, King William IV named the Brackla distillery – founded in 1812 by Captain William Fraser – his official purveyor, the first whisky distillery ever granted this honour. Queen Victoria later renewed the royal warrant. To this day, only three distilleries have ever shared the title "Royal": Royal Brackla, the still-operating Royal Lochnagar, and the long-demolished Glenury Royal.
How did Royal Brackla end up with Bacardi?
After several changes of ownership – including Robert Fraser & Co. (1852) and John Bisset & Co. (1926) – the distillery passed to the Distillers Company Limited (DCL) in 1943. During the Second World War, the site served for a time as a Royal Air Force base. Royal Brackla was mothballed from 1985 to 1991. As part of the merger that later gave rise to the drinks group Diageo, the distillery had to be sold to Bacardi in 1998 for competition-law reasons.
