Remedy
In 1922, in the middle of American Prohibition, New York pharmacist and alchemist Frank M. Farrington sold the finest spirits under the counter - officially disguised as a "remedy" for all manner of ailments, since alcohol for medicinal purposes remained legal even during the ban. His spiced rum became an insider tip in the underground bars of the era under this pretext, and faded into obscurity after Prohibition ended in 1933 along with the demand for illicitly produced spirits. Nearly a hundred years later, this "Remedy" recipe and story were rediscovered and revived as a blend of rums from the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados.

Why was rum called "Remedy" of all things?
During US Prohibition (1920-1933), alcohol for medicinal purposes remained legally available - pharmacists like Frank M. Farrington exploited this loophole, officially selling their spirits as remedies, while actually offering high-quality sipping rum.
How was the brand revived?
After Prohibition ended, Remedy faded into obscurity for almost a century before its recipe and story were reconstructed and relaunched as a modern blend from three Caribbean countries of origin.
Flavour profile
Taste: Fruity and spiced with vanilla, orange peel and cinnamon, underpinned by a pleasant kick from the spice blend.
Recommended enjoyment: Neat, on the rocks, or as the base for a spiced rum cocktail like a Dark & Stormy.
Available as Remedy Spiced Rum.
