Why was Diplomático actually called Botucal in Germany?

For many years, Botucal stood on German shelves on the characteristic bottle labels featuring the image of Don Juancho. The reason for this was trademark overlaps: the global name Diplomático was protected in Germany and could not be used initially. The distillery therefore switched to the name Botucal—named after the Hacienda Botucal, where part of the sugar cane used is grown.

Following the clarification of naming rights, the adjustment to the global brand name Diplomático is now taking place step by step. For lovers of the brand: the recipes, distillation methods, and aging processes have remained absolutely identical. You therefore enjoy exactly the familiar quality and flavor distinction.

What makes Diplomático Rum from Venezuela so special?

The DUSA (Destilerías Unidas S.A.) distillery is located in the Planas Valley at the foot of the Andes. A warm daytime climate, cool nights, and high humidity provide ideal conditions for intensive aging in wooden casks.

Diplomático relies on both rich sugar cane molasses and fresh sugar cane honey (Sugar Cane Honey) during production. Through the combination of different distillation processes—including traditional copper pot stills (Pot Stills) for heavy, character-rich notes and column stills for lighter accents—exceptionally complex rums are created.
