Teerenpeli
What began in 1994 as a beer restaurant in Lahti grew, via its own brewery, into Finland's largest malt whisky distillery today – whisky has been distilled here since 2002, entirely in family ownership, which also makes Teerenpeli the country's oldest whisky distillery.
Teerenpeli stands for Finnish whisky with local character: local barley, Finnish groundwater, and a distinctive style all its own, somewhere between fruity and gently smoky. From the fruity, lightly peated Kaski to the port-matured Portti, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

How did a beer restaurant become Finland's largest whisky distillery?
In 1994, the Teerenpeli family opened their eponymous beer restaurant on Vapaudenkatu in Lahti, followed a year later by a small in-house brewery. In 2002, the company also began distilling whisky, making it Finland's oldest whisky distillery. In 2009, Teerenpeli moved into its own building in the Lotila industrial area and acquired its own bottling equipment; the former premises have since been used exclusively for whisky production. Today, the traditional copper pot stills produce around 100,000 litres of new-make spirit a year – making Teerenpeli Finland's largest malt whisky distillery.
What does the name Teerenpeli actually mean?
"Teerenpeli" refers in Finnish to the courtship display of the black grouse – a term also used figuratively for flirting between people. Fittingly, the distillery relies on local barley, Finnish spring water, and its own peat and malt to give the whisky a distinctly Finnish character.
Overview of the most popular bottlings
1. Teerenpeli Kaski
Teerenpeli's best-known malt.
Taste: Fruity with light peat, a spicy aftertaste with raisin and fruitcake notes.
Serving suggestion: A good introduction to Finnish whisky.
2. Teerenpeli Portti
Matured 3 to 4 years in bourbon casks, then finished for a year and a half in port wine casks.
Taste: Bold fruit and roasted sugar, with white pepper, nutmeg, and port wine notes on the palate.
Serving suggestion: For anyone who enjoys port cask finishing.
3. Teerenpeli PRKL
The distillery's cheekily named no-age-statement malt.
Taste: A sour-fruit opening, gentle smoke, birch wood, and vanilla.
Serving suggestion: For curious tasters looking beyond the mainstream.
