The Scottish craft brewery BrewDog, based in Ellon near Aberdeen, ventured into spirits in 2016 with LoneWolf Distilling, producing spiced rum alongside gin and vodka, using Caribbean molasses specially imported to Scotland for the purpose. In early 2026, however, BrewDog announced it would wind down its entire spirits business to focus exclusively on beer going forward.
The rum bottlings still available, such as BrewDog Duo and 500 Cuts, are therefore remaining stock with no further production. With BrewDog Duo Spiced Rum, you will still find one of the last bottlings of this distinctive craft-brewery spirit in our selection.

How did a craft brewery end up distilling rum?
BrewDog, known as one of the UK's largest independent craft breweries, built its own distillery at its Ellon headquarters in 2015 and founded its spirits arm, LoneWolf Distilling, in 2016. Alongside gin and vodka, the company also produced spiced rum there, using specially imported Caribbean molasses: the wash was fermented for several days with rum and red wine yeasts and then double-distilled in copper stills before being refined with various botanicals.
Why will BrewDog no longer produce rum?
Following several years of losses – most recently a pre-tax loss of £37 million in 2024 – BrewDog announced in early 2026 that it would wind down its entire spirits arm, including LoneWolf Gin, Abstrakt Vodka, Duo Rum, and Casa Rayos Tequila, to refocus fully on its core beer business. The Ellon distillery is being wound down step by step as part of this "responsible wind-down".
