Taiwanese Whisky
In 2015, Taiwan achieved its international breakthrough: Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique was named "World's Best Single Malt" at the World Whiskies Awards - a sensation for a whisky nation that had only come into existence ten years earlier, in 2005. The Kavalan Distillery, whose first drop of new-make spirit flowed from the still in March 2006, benefits from a decisive geographical advantage: Taiwan's hot, humid climate makes whisky mature considerably faster than in cool Scotland, so that even young bottlings develop unusually rich complexity. Kavalan has since amassed over 950 gold medals at international spirits competitions and is distributed in more than 50 countries.

How did Taiwan achieve its breakthrough in the whisky world?
By winning the title "World's Best Single Malt" at the 2015 World Whiskies Awards - with Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique - Taiwan proved that excellent whisky doesn't have to come from Scotland or Japan.
Why does Kavalan mature so much faster than Scotch?
Taiwan's hot, subtropical climate significantly speeds up the chemical processes in the cask, so that just a few years of maturation produce flavours that take Scotch whisky much longer to develop.
