Glen Moray
For almost 90 years, the Speyside distillery Glen Moray on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin shared ownership with the famous Glenmorangie and often served as a testing ground for new maturation techniques – including so-called wood finishing, which later became world-famous through Glenmorangie.
Glen Moray stands for a delicate, floral-fruity Speyside style at an approachable price. From the Glen Moray Classic to the Port Cask Finish, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

How did Glen Moray become Glenmorangie's "testing ground"?
Glen Moray emerged in 1897 from the old West Brewery (whose origins go back to 1828) and was converted into a distillery by the Glen Moray Glenlivet Distillery Co. Ltd. After closures in 1910 and further false starts, it was only the 1920 takeover by Macdonald & Muir – already the owners of Glenmorangie since two years earlier – that brought lasting stability. Although the similarity in the two distilleries' names is pure coincidence, Glen Moray is still often described as Glenmorangie's "little sister": new maturation ideas, above all secondary cask finishing (wood finishing), were tried here first, before making Glenmorangie world-famous.
Who owns Glen Moray today?
In 1996, Macdonald & Muir renamed itself Glenmorangie plc, and in 2004 the French luxury group LVMH acquired the company. As early as 2008, LVMH sold Glen Moray on to the French wine and spirits group La Martiniquaise, which has since invested heavily in the distillery – including several new stills from 2014 onward.
Overview of the most popular bottlings
1. Glen Moray Classic
The unpeated entry point into the brand.
Taste: Delicate and floral with bright fruit.
Serving suggestion: An uncomplicated Speyside introduction at a fair price.
2. Glen Moray Port Cask Finish
Finished in port casks – a direct continuation of the distillery's wood-finishing tradition.
Taste: Citrus-fresh to honey-sweet with a whole basket of aromas.
Serving suggestion: For anyone wanting to taste the distillery's own wood-finishing history.
3. Glen Moray Sherry Cask Finish
Finished in sherry casks.
Taste: Dried fruit and spice, denser than the Classic.
Serving suggestion: A good crossover for fans of sherry-driven Speyside malts.
