Why is the Grant's bottle triangular?

Since 1957, William Grant & Sons has bottled its blend in what has become an iconic triangular bottle – designed by German émigré designer Hans Schleger. The shape is not just a recognition device; it also allowed for especially space-efficient stacking for worldwide export, which had begun much earlier: from 1909, Charles Gordon, son-in-law of founder William Grant, spent a year touring East Asia to introduce the blend there. By 1914, the company maintained more than 60 sales offices across over 30 countries.

Why has Grant's remained one of the last major houses in family ownership?

To reduce dependence on third-party grain whisky suppliers, William Grant & Sons built its own grain distillery, Girvan, in Ayrshire in 1963. The Grant's blend still combines around 25 different malt and grain whiskies today, drawing substantially on the group's own malts Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Kininvie, and Ailsa Bay – a rare example of a blend whose key ingredients come almost entirely from in-house production.
