Fettercairn
Founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay, the distillery was for a time owned by the Gladstone family – whose son William Ewart Gladstone went on to become British Prime Minister four times and, with the Spirits Act of 1860, was instrumental in first enabling whisky exports in bottles. Few other distilleries can claim such a remarkably prominent ownership history as Fettercairn.
Fettercairn stands for a rich, nutty, malty Highland style with unusual tropical fruit notes. From the Fettercairn 12 Year Old to the more mature 14 Year Old, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

How did a British Prime Minister shape a distillery's fate?
Fettercairn was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay and was only the second distillery, after Glenlivet, to receive a proper licence following the Excise Act of 1823. Later owners included Sir John Gladstone and his son Sir Thomas Gladstone – whose younger brother William Ewart Gladstone went on to become British Prime Minister four times. In that role, his Spirits Act of 1860 created the legal basis for exporting whisky in bottles and abolished the malt tax – changes that benefited the entire Scotch industry.
How did Fettercairn survive fire and changes of ownership?
In 1887, a fire destroyed large parts of the site, which was fully rebuilt by 1890. The distillery's own malting floor closed in 1960, and the number of stills was doubled in 1966. In 1971, Fettercairn passed to the Tomintoul-Glenlivet Distillery Company, who passed it on to Whyte & Mackay in 1973 – the distillery's owner to this day.
Overview of the most popular bottlings

Taste: Nutty and malty with deepened fruit sweetness.
Serving suggestion: For anyone wanting the house style in a more mature form.
