In 1863, Albert Michler founded his trading house in the Silesian hamlet of Buchsdorf, which soon supplied the Austro-Hungarian monarchy with the finest spirits - the same distillery behind the Old Bert brand. With Austrian Empire Navy Rum, the company pays tribute to the rich history of the Habsburg Empire and its 19th-century imperial and royal navy. Whether the imperial navy was actually supplied with Michler rum is not historically documented - the brand therefore understands itself less as documented history and more as an affectionate bow to a vanished era, realised with Caribbean rums from Trinidad and the Dominican Republic, matured in Austria.
