Nc'nean
In 2013, Annabel Thomas quit her London office job to attempt something entirely new on Scotland's west coast, overlooking the Isle of Mull: a whisky distillery run in strict harmony with nature. For four years she raised capital and built the facility from scratch in the remote village of Drimnin on the Morvern peninsula, before the first distillation ran in 2017. The distillery is named after Neachneohain, a Gaelic goddess and "Queen of Spirits" regarded as a fierce protector of nature - a fitting name for a distillery that runs on 100% renewable energy, uses only organic-certified Scottish barley from two partner farms, and became the first UK distillery to be officially certified carbon neutral in 2021.

Where does the unusual name Nc'nean come from?
The name derives from Neachneohain, a Gaelic goddess and "Queen of Spirits" regarded in Scottish mythology as a fierce protector of nature - a fitting name for a distillery built around a consistent sustainability mission.
What makes Nc'nean so unusually sustainable?
The distillery runs on 100% renewable energy, uses only organic-certified Scottish barley from two partner farms, and bottles in 100% recycled glass. In 2021 it became the first distillery in the UK certified carbon neutral, and in 2022 one of only two Scottish distilleries certified as a B Corporation.
