Pusser's
From 1655 until 31 July 1970, British sailors of the Royal Navy received a daily rum ration known as the "tot" – one of the longest unbroken traditions in maritime history. "Pusser" is Royal Navy slang for a ship's purser, or supply officer, and that name lives on today in the original navy rum.
In 1979, company founder Charles Tobias obtained permission from the Admiralty to commercially market the original navy recipe under the name Pusser's. From the Blue Label to the high-proof Gunpowder Proof Black Label, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

How long did British sailors receive daily rum?
The tradition of navy rum began in 1655 with the Royal Navy's Caribbean fleet in Jamaica and had spread across the entire British fleet by 1731. In tropical waters, beer spoiled quickly and water became undrinkable – rum, by contrast, kept almost indefinitely and took up less space than the daily gallon beer ration per man. The daily rum issue, the "tot", was finally discontinued on 31 July 1970 – known as "Black Tot Day" – as part of the Navy's ongoing modernisation.
How did a naval ration become a commercial brand?
It was only in 1979 that company founder Charles Tobias MBE received official permission from the British Admiralty to commercially market the historic recipe under the name Pusser's – before that, the rum had never been sold to the public.
