Portrait: What makes the Glen Scotia Double Cask special

Some whiskies don't need words - but this one gets them anyway. Glen Scotia Double Cask PX Finish is so Scottish that it probably wakes up in a kilt and thanks the distillery before the day begins.

Glen Scotia comes from Campbeltown, a small town on the west coast of Scotland that was once the "Whisky Capital of the World" - with over 30 distilleries in a small area. Today there are only three left, but Glen Scotia flies the flag high like a bagpiper on a hill in the fog.

The Double Cask PX Finish is a true jetsetter among whiskies: First, it was allowed to bask in first-fill bourbon casks – in other words, casks that had only seen bourbon once before. Then it was further matured in ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry casks – essentially, in liquid Spanish raisin romance. It was allowed to relax there for a year, probably with a fan smelling of Seville.

But as I said, we're not talking about taste here – after all, whisky is meant to be drunk, not analyzed. What matters is the story. And Glen Scotia certainly has that – plus a bit of sea air, tradition, and a pinch of Scottish stubbornness.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Glen Scotia Double Cask tastes like

  • Nose: A sweet opening with crème caramel and toffee, accompanied by fruity aromas of ripe apples and peaches – with a fresh sea breeze in the background – as if you were standing on a cliff while enjoying dessert
  • Palate: Strong, spicy fruit notes dominate the first impression, followed by rich toffee and creamy fudge - a full-bodied experience that skillfully combines sweet depth and a subtle spiciness
  • Finish: Smooth and balanced with vanilla, oak, and a pleasant, mild spiciness in the aftertaste - a harmonious finish that leaves you wanting the next sip
