Why is it called "the forbidden rum"?
The predecessor spirit "Chinguirito" was banned in the 18th century by King Felipe V of Spain, as excessive consumption was causing social problems. The brand name deliberately recalls this historical ban.
Why is a Mexican rum aged using the Spanish solera method?
The solera method originally comes from Spanish sherry and brandy production and was brought to Mexico by Spanish colonisers - El Ron Prohibido preserves this historical connection in its maturation process to this day.
Flavour profile
Taste: Soft and sweet with caramel, vanilla and a fine wood spice from solera maturation; the "Habanero" variant adds extra roasted and tobacco notes.
Recommended enjoyment: Neat or on the rocks as a digestif; its round sweetness also works well in simple rum cocktails.
