Clément
In 1887, plantation owner Homère Clément founded, at the Domaine de l'Acajou estate in northern Martinique, one of the first distilleries to make rum from freshly pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses – to this day the hallmark of rhum agricole. That makes Clément one of its founding fathers.
Clément stands for authentic rhum agricole from Martinique, matured in French oak casks. From the clear Rhum Agricole Blanc to the matured XO, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

How did a sugar cane plantation become a rhum agricole pioneer?
Homère Clément, owner of sugar cane plantations in northern Martinique, founded a distillery at the Domaine de l'Acajou estate in 1887 that, from the outset, used freshly pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses – the birth of rhum agricole, a style of rum typical of the French Antilles. In 1917, he built a fully equipped distillery called Habitation Clément to meet rising alcohol demand during the First World War. After Homère's death in 1923, his son Charles took over, further refined production, and began exporting abroad for the first time.
Who runs Clément today?
In 1986, the Hayot family – closely linked to the Clément family and behind the Martinique-based group GBH (Groupe Bernard Hayot) – took over the distillery and renamed it "Habitation Clément" in honour of the founding family.
