Tormore
Renowned architect Sir Albert Richardson designed a true showpiece in 1958: white buildings crowned with green copper roofs and slate-framed windows, lined with boxwood hedges trimmed into the shape of pot stills. As the first newly built Scottish distillery of the 20th century, Tormore remains known as the "Pearl of Speyside" to this day.
For decades, almost all production went into blended whiskies – it was only with the takeover by Elixir Distillers in 2022 that Tormore began releasing single malt bottlings under its own name for the first time. The new Blueprint series is the current entry point into this long-underrated distillery's range in our selection.

Why was a distillery never sold under its own name for almost 70 years?
Tormore was built in 1958 by Long John Distillers as a deliberate showpiece project – as the first entirely newly built Scottish distillery of the 20th century, it was meant to impress architecturally as well. In 1972, the number of stills was doubled from four to eight. Passing through Whitbread & Co. (1975), Allied Lyons/Allied Domecq (1989), and finally Chivas Brothers/Pernod Ricard (2005), Tormore remained for decades a pure supplier distillery for blends such as Chivas Regal – with almost no bottling of its own under the Tormore name.
What changed with the 2022 takeover?
In 2022, Elixir Distillers – the company of brothers Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh, known for The Whisky Exchange and independent bottling labels such as Port Askaig – bought Tormore directly from Pernod Ricard. Under new ownership, the distillery returned to more traditional production methods to bring out the spirit's fruity character more strongly. In 2025, the Blueprint series marked the distillery's very first official own bottling: three 10-year-old single malts from bourbon, toasted, and cream sherry casks – a historic fresh start for a distillery that had remained practically invisible for almost seven decades.
