Imagine a whisky distillery that looks like a manor house, is situated like a health resort, and sounds like a poem: Welcome to Tormore. Nestled in the rolling hills of Scotland's Speyside, surrounded by pine forests and Scottish serenity, one of the country's most architecturally elegant distilleries has rested there since 1958 - it's even been officially listed as a historic monument. A single malt was distilled within these venerable walls in 2015, which then spent 10 years evolving in the shadow of First Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts and Bourbon Barrels - probably with more patience than a Scottish postman in a blizzard.
Now the independent bottler Signatory Vintage is presenting it as part of its 100 Proof Edition - a series that entices whisky lovers worldwide with a simple promise: high proof, low presence. At a whopping 57.1% ABV. (100 British proof), the Tormore also packs a punch - without any smoke and mirrors.
Number 45 in the series shows that age, cask selection, and alcohol content can be kept within reasonable price ranges - without sacrificing quality or character.
