And that at 56% ABV – definitely no lightweight at a summer party.

The Tormore Distillery may not be the oldest in Scotland, but it is one of the most striking: In the middle of Speyside, it sits enthroned like a castle of whisky dreams – with turrets, a clock, and even its own gardener's cottage. Founded in 1958 and under the care of Elixir Distillers since 2022, it was long underestimated – a bit like the unassuming guy in school class who suddenly becomes a rock star.

With the Legacy Casks series, Tormore finally opens the door to its treasure trove. And the 2009 vintage? A true highlight. From a single first-fill bourbon barrel (#44041), bottled at cask strength, without color gimmicks or chill filtration – essentially the whisky in its natural, wild form, but with manners.

There are only 214 bottles – so more boutique than mass-produced. And whoever gets their hands on one of these will get a single malt that demonstrates how elegant youthful energy can be when it's rested in a cask for 15 years.
