Michter's
Michter's carries one of the most storied names in American whiskey history. Its roots reach back to 1753, when Swiss settler John Shenk founded a distillery in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania – known over the centuries as Bomberger's before becoming Michter's in the 1950s. In 1989, the Pennsylvania distillery was forced to close.
In the 1990s, beverage importer Chatham Imports, led by Joseph J. Magliocco, acquired the brand rights and revived Michter's in Louisville, Kentucky. From the Small Batch Bourbon to the Straight Rye, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

How far back does Michter's history really go?
Its origins reach back to 1753, when Swiss immigrant John Shenk founded a small distillery in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania. Over the centuries the name changed several times; in the 19th century the distillery was known as Bomberger's. It was only in the 1950s that owner Lou Forman gave it the name "Michter's" – combining the first names of his two sons, Michael and Peter. In 1989, the storied Pennsylvania distillery was ultimately forced to close.
How was Michter's revived in Kentucky?
In the 1990s, beverage importer Chatham Imports – led by the three Magliocco brothers, John, Nino, and Joseph – secured the rights to the Michter's brand for a comparatively small sum. Under the leadership of Joseph J. Magliocco and with the help of former Wild Turkey president Dick Newman, the brand was relocated to Louisville, Kentucky. There, mature whiskey was initially sourced and bottled from existing distilleries; the first bottlings under the new ownership appeared in 2000 as a 10-year rye and a 10-year bourbon.
Overview of the most popular bottlings
1. Michter's Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey
The multi-award-winning core bottling of the brand.
Taste: Caramel, vanilla, and ripe fruit.
Serving suggestion: An excellent entry point into the world of Kentucky bourbon.
2. Michter's Straight Rye
A classic American rye whiskey.
Taste: Spicy and peppery with honey notes.
Serving suggestion: For fans of complex, spicy rye whiskies.
