Profile: What Makes Michter’s Straight Rye Special
Michter’s produces an excellent straight rye whiskey that is bottled only by the barrel: every bottle comes from a single cask. The whiskey matures in charred barrels of new American white oak and is bottled at 42.4% ABV (84.8 proof).
It is made from select American rye grain that is sheared to get the most flavour out of the grain.
Tasting Notes: What Michter’s Straight Rye Tastes Like
- Nose: Oak, citrus, vanilla, candy and spice with copper, some dark fruit and sugar
- Palate: Peppery rye spice, citrus, vanilla, oak, butterscotch and candy corn; also cinnamon, nutmeg and orange peel with caramel sweetness and toasted oak
- Finish: Medium with candy corn, vanilla, butterscotch and some spice
