Portrait: What makes the Michter's unblended American Whiskey special
Anyone who thinks whiskey is just whiskey hasn't yet experienced Michter's Unblended American Whiskey - a tipple that defies categorization. Officially, it can't be called "bourbon" because it's aged in used Bourbon Casks. And according to US law, that's a clear case of "sorry, but no." New Casks or no Bourbon - that's the rule.
But don't worry: What the name lacks, the contents easily make up for. Michter's takes a sporty approach and simply calls it “American Whiskey” - it sounds a bit generic, but it carries with it an exciting story.
“Unblended” means, by the way, that Michter's dispenses with the addition of neutral alcohol – meaning no vodka in the whiskey, as is unfortunately found in some other American bottlings. Here, only real whiskey goes into the barrel and bottle.
The barrels themselves have seen bourbon before, and you can tell - well, let's tell the palate that.
In short: a whiskey with character, history, and a pinch of defiance. And let's be honest - who wants to be normal when you can be so different?
Tasting Notes: This is how the Michter's unblended American Whiskey tastes like
- Nose: soft and inviting with aromas of caramel, vanilla, and roasted sugar - behind this develop light wood nuances, dried fruits, and a hint of toffee - pleasantly round and balanced
- Palate: smooth, creamy, and with a delicate sweetness - notes of butterscotch, honey, and browned sugar meet subtle oak notes - accompanied by subtle hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and some roasted nuts - very approachable and harmonious
- Finish: medium to long, with a soft, slightly spicy note - the impression of Caramel and vanilla remain, accompanied by a subtle dryness and a final touch of oak

Sehr weicher Whiskey, erinnert fast an Rum.
