What does "Monkey Shoulder" have to do with monkeys?
Nothing directly - the name comes from a historical occupational condition among malt men, whose shoulder hung permanently a little low from hours of turning barley by hand. William Grant & Sons turned this into a memorable brand name for a new blended malt in 2005.
What makes this blend so special?
Monkey Shoulder combines malt whisky from three Speyside distilleries, all owned by William Grant & Sons and sitting right next to each other in Dufftown: Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie. Due to high international demand, the brand now also draws on other distilleries within the group at times.
Flavour profile
Taste: Soft and round with vanilla, ripe orange fruit and a delicate honey note - deliberately designed as a bartender-friendly, highly mixable blended malt.
Recommended enjoyment: The classic choice for whisky cocktails like the Old Fashioned or Whisky Sour, but equally enjoyable neat or on the rocks.
