Portrait: What makes the Monkey Shoulder with Glass special

The name may sound a bit crazy, but behind Monkey Shoulder lies genuine Scottish craftsmanship - and a good dose of character. The term originates from the time when maltsters still turned the barley by hand with a shovel. This shovel was called a "monkey shoulder" - and anyone who did this for hours on end would sometimes develop a shoulder that resembled the posture of a monkey. Today, the name stands for a blended malt whisky that combines tradition with a modern spirit – all without the muscle strain.
Monkey Shoulder is produced by William Grant & Sons, one of the great names in the whisky world. Only 27 casks from three select Speyside distilleries make it into each batch – true craftsmanship, where quality is more important than quantity. This results in a whisky with personality and a distinctive character, perfect for any home bar – or for someone who deserves a good gift. The highlight of this set: the elegant highball glass with the printed Monkey Shoulder logo and lettering. This allows you to enjoy the whisky in style – neat, on the rocks, or as the base for creative cocktails.
And yes, the glass looks pretty good just in your hand. Whether for a birthday, Christmas, or as a small token of appreciation: The Monkey Shoulder gift set is an original idea for anyone who appreciates humor and craftsmanship. A blended malt with history, charm, and a clear message – sometimes it pays to take matters into your own hands.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Monkey Shoulder tastes like

  • Nose: A fruity and elegant opening with aromas of ripe apricots and juicy pears. Gentle honey and fresh vanilla lend the aroma a pleasant softness, while in the background, fine malt aromas and a hint of orange peel provide depth.
  • Palate: On the palate, Monkey Shoulder is round and balanced. The fruity impressions of apricots and pears return, accompanied by a mild sweetness that harmoniously rounds off the whisky. A subtle spiciness resonates in the background, lending character and structure to the flavor.
  • Finish: Long and full-bodied – the vanilla becomes more pronounced, accompanied by a delicate hint of crushed white pepper. A gentle yet lingering finale that leaves you wanting another sip.
