Tamnavulin
Built in 1966 by the Tamnavulin-Glenlivet Distillery Company, a subsidiary of Invergordon, Tamnavulin is the only Speyside distillery that actually sits on the River Livet that gives the region its name – unlike the more famous Glenlivet. The distillery has belonged to the Philippine Emperador group since 2014.
Tamnavulin stands for a floral, grassy Speyside style with delicate sweetness and pronounced herb and spice notes – particularly shaped by a wide range of wine cask finishes. From the Tamnavulin Double Cask to the Sauvignon Blanc Cask, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

Why is Tamnavulin actually on the River Livet – unlike Glenlivet?
Many Speyside distilleries once adorned their labels with the prestigious "Glenlivet" suffix, even though few actually stood on the River Livet. Tamnavulin, by contrast, sits directly on the Livet, closer than any other distillery – named after an old mill "on the hill" (Gaelic: Tamnavulin), even though the village itself is spelled "Tomnavoulin". In 1966, the Tamnavulin-Glenlivet Distillery Company, a subsidiary of Invergordon Distillers, built the distillery to meet growing demand from blenders such as Whyte & Mackay, Crawford's, and Mackinlay's.
How did Tamnavulin survive several closures?
In 1994, Whyte & Mackay bought the distillery but had to halt production just a year later. In May 2000, production resumed for only six weeks. It was only in 2007, after Whyte & Mackay had passed to India's United Spirits (UB Group), that Tamnavulin restarted for good – initially at reduced capacity, reaching full capacity again in 2011. Since 2014, Whyte & Mackay, and with it Tamnavulin, has belonged to the Philippine Emperador group. The first regular own bottling, the Double Cask, only appeared in 2016, to mark the distillery's 50th anniversary.
Overview of the most popular bottlings
1. Tamnavulin Double Cask
The distillery's first regular bottling, matured in bourbon and sherry casks.
Taste: Floral and grassy with delicate sweetness.
Serving suggestion: Neat, as a mild introduction to Speyside.
2. Tamnavulin Sherry Cask
Finished in three different sherry casks.
Taste: Dried fruit and spice, bolder than the Double Cask.
Serving suggestion: For fans of sherry-forward Speyside malts.
3. Tamnavulin Sauvignon Blanc
Finished in Sauvignon Blanc wine casks.
Taste: Fresh and grassy with the crispness typical of white wine casks.
Serving suggestion: For anyone seeking unusual wine cask finishes.
