Strathclyde

Founded in 1927 in the heart of Glasgow, the Strathclyde distillery was initially meant to produce nothing but grain whisky for blends - an unspectacular task that gained an unusual lodger in 1957: the malt distillery Kinclaith, built right on the same company site. Kinclaith lasted only 18 years before closing in 1975 following the sale to Whitbread & Co, making way for Strathclyde's expansion - its short life turned the rare malt into a coveted legend among collectors. Strathclyde itself survived, was modernised in 2002, and has belonged to Pernod Ricard since 2005, where the grain whisky produced here still serves as a key ingredient for Chivas Regal and Ballantine's today.
