Glasgow
In 2012, Liam Hughes, Mike Hayward, and Ian McDougall founded the Glasgow Distillery Company; in 2014 the award-winning Makar Gin launched first, before the first own single malt, "1770", followed in 2018 – the Scottish metropolis's first whisky distillery in over 100 years.
The name 1770 references the original Glasgow distillery on the Dundashill site, founded in that same year and operating until 1903. From the fruity-fresh 1770 Glasgow The Original to the smoky Peated Rich & Smoky, you will find the right bottle for every occasion in our selection.

How did whisky return to Glasgow after more than 100 years?
In 2012, Liam Hughes, Mike Hayward, and Ian McDougall founded the Glasgow Distillery Company with the aim of restoring the Scottish city's whisky tradition – the last Glasgow distillery had closed in 1903. The new distillery officially opened in 2014; its first product, Makar Gin, launched on 27 October that year and brought the distillery its first international attention. Since whisky needs time to mature, it took until 2018 for the first own single malt, "1770", to appear – named after the historic Dundashill distillery, founded in 1770, once among the largest in Scotland.
What defines the modern Glasgow whisky style?
1770 Glasgow relies on hand-selected ingredients, small batches, and a deliberately sustainable production process. In 2020, the distillery was named "Scottish Whisky Distillery of the Year". The range spans from fruity and fresh to intensely peaty styles, showing an unusual stylistic breadth for such a young distillery.
Overview of the most popular bottlings

2. 1770 Glasgow Peated – Rich & Smoky
The peated variant of the house style.
Taste: Smoky and bold, unusual for a Lowland malt.
Serving suggestion: For anyone seeking peat beyond Islay.
3. 1770 Glasgow Triple Distilled – Smooth & Vibrant
Triple-distilled for particular lightness.
Taste: Soft and vibrant with fine fruit.
Serving suggestion: For anyone seeking an especially approachable style.
