Sullivans Cove
In 1994, Robert Hosken founded Tasmania's second-oldest whisky distillery on the banks of the Derwent River in Hobart - a small, unassuming operation that would surprise the entire whisky world two decades later. In 2014, Sullivans Cove became the first Australian distillery ever to win the title "World's Best Single Malt Whisky" at the World Whiskies Awards with a French oak cask (HH0525) - a seismic event that suddenly drew international attention to the small island south of Australia. In 2018 and again in 2019, the distillery repeated this success in the "World's Best Single Cask" category, making it to this day the only distillery to have won that award twice. Why was the 2014 win so significant?
Sullivans Cove was the first Australian distillery ever to win the title "World's Best Single Malt Whisky" - a success that brought international attention not just to the brand, but to the entire Tasmanian and Australian whisky industry.
How many times has Sullivans Cove won already?
At the World Whiskies Awards, the distillery won the "World's Best Single Cask Single Malt" title in 2018 (American Oak Single Cask) and again in 2019 (French Oak Single Cask) - the only distillery in history to win it twice.
Flavour profile
Taste: Full-bodied and complex with ripe fruit, caramel and elegant wood spice, with nuances ranging from spiced and tannic to vanilla-sweet depending on cask type (French or American oak).
Recommended enjoyment: Neat at room temperature, to fully appreciate the award-winning complexity.
Available is Sullivans Cove Double Cask Matured #DC110.
