Linkwood

The thing with the spiders ....

No question, Linkwood is a very old and traditional distillery. How much one preserves the traditional in every detail here is an anecdote that is well-known and often told. Former manager Roderick McKenzie has set great store by avoiding any change in the process of making whiskey. Allegedly, he even banned the removal of cobwebs in a warehouse. For fear that this "artificial" change in the environment could affect the maturity of whiskey. Is it true? You do not remember exactly. But it would fit.

A little history

The distillery was founded in 1821 by Peter Brown and rebuilt after his death by his son William in 1871.
In 1897, the Linkwood-Glenlivet Distillery Co Ltd took over the management and expanded the distillery.
In 1933 Linkwood went to Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd. (SMG). During the Second World War the production rested.
It was only in 1962, as part of renovation work, that the company's own steam engine was decommissioned and production connected to the electrical grid.
In 1971, the distillery was expanded by the construction of a second Stillhouse (often referred to as "Linkwood B"). From 1985 to 1990, the old part of the distillery (Linkwood A) was closed.
Linkwood was sold to United Distillers & Vintners in 1992 and is now part of Diageo.

The Linkwood Malt is found mostly in well-known blends such as Bells, White Horse, Dimple or Johnnie Walker again.

What do I actually have in the glass?

The Linkwood is a fairly typical Speyside Malt: Slightly smoky with hints of fruit and sweetness and a full body.

3 reasons to love Linkwood

1) Because legends always have a true core.
2) Because the two swans look so peaceful on the 12-year-old's label.
3) Because it would be a pity to hide Linkwood in blends only.

The one drama for the lonely island

The 12-year-old original bottling from the "Flora & Fauna" series is completely successful and a true gentleman.
