Allt-à-Bhainne

Translation: Milchbach
Region: Speyside

The shy star that nobody knows.

The name Allt-a-Bhainne (or "Allt-á-Bhainne", "Allt-à-Bhainne", "Allt-a'-Bhainne", "Allt-A-Bhainne" ...) will probably only diehardest Whiskey friends say something. The distillery with around 4 million liters of production volume is one of the biggest in Scotland. It is located in the picturesque heart of the whiskey world, the Speyside area. And their whiskey is part of globally successful top blends like Chivas Regal or 100 Pipers. Which brings us to the central point: there is no official bottling of an Allt-a-Bhainne single malts.
The whiskey produced here hides almost exclusively in the blends of the owner Chivas Brothers Ltd. Or he disguises himself with the name "Deerstalker", a malt published by the independent glass giant Bottler Aberko. Why?

A little history

Allt-a-Bhainne is still a young destiilerie and her story is told pretty quickly. The distillery was founded in 1975 by Chivas Brothers Ltd., then a subsidiary of the Canadian beverage giant Seagram.
In 1989, the number of stills was doubled from two to four.
In 2001, Seagram, including Chivas Brothers and Allt-a-Bainne, went to
Pernod Ricrad. They shut down the distillery in October 2002.
In May 2005, production resumed. Allt-a-Bhainne's malts are almost exclusively used for the blends of Chivas.

What do I actually have in the glass?

The few single bottlings bottlings of independent Bottler usually have a very soft, medium-heavy body with beautiful fruity notes and clear malty sweetness. Actually one for a big audience.

3 reasons to love Allt-a-Bhainne

1) Because the malt has earned it.
2) Because "Milchbach" is such a nice name for a distillery.
3) Because not only the elderly can make good whiskey.

The one drama for the lonely island

The independent bottler Signatory always brings out interesting single cask bottlings with a very enjoyable combination: old age - low price! Try.
