The Jura distillery is located on the Scottish island of the same name, off the west coast. And the island is not exactly known for being overpopulated. A mere 200 people or so live there—not counting whisky fans, who presumably take the ferry regularly. The distillery itself is situated near Craighouse, the island's main settlement, and has been closely linked to Jura since its inception.

The distillery's history dates back to 1810. After decades of ups and downs, the current distillery was rebuilt in 1963 and resumed production shortly thereafter. Since then, Jura has carved out a firm place for itself among Scottish island whiskies.
