Portrait: What makes the Savanna Le Must Rhum Traditionnel special

Imagine an island where the sun constantly smiles warmly on the sugarcane fields, volcanoes rise majestically into the sky, and the Indian Ocean permanently applauds with gentle waves. Right here, at the foot of the imposing Piton de la Fournaise, lies the Savanna distillery – home to rum that has seen more adventures than many a pirate. Savanna is no newcomer to the sugarcane game. Rum has been handcrafted here since the 19th century, and with such passion that you almost expect the Casks themselves to tell stories.
The modern era of the distillery began with Émile Hugot, better known as "Monsieur Sucre." In the 1950s, he catapulted Savanna into the future with his sugar expertise - a bit like a conductor leading not an orchestra, but sugarcane. Savanna Le Must is, so to speak, the icing on the cake of the collection. Here, traditional craftsmanship meets experimental sophistication. The distillery masters both column and pot stills, processing fresh sugarcane juice and molasses - but only between July and November, as if the rum only takes center stage when the stars align perfectly.

And like all Savanna rums, Le Must is free of additives and non-chill filtered – authentic, raw, and charming, just like the wild island itself. Le Must is aged in French oak cognac casks, where it slumbers in the tropical sun for up to nine years. A blend of traditional and Grand Arôme rum is brought to life here, with the care of a goldsmith and the patience of a monk.
So, if you're looking for a rum that embodies not only origin, craftsmanship, and history, but also a touch of island magic, you'll find it in Savanna Le Must – a true piece of La Réunion in a glass, without even having to taste the first drop to dream about it.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Savanna Le Must Rhum Traditionnel tastes like

  • Nose: Robust, fruity, and fresh – a veritable fruit basket with banana, pear, and white peach. Sweet aromas of candy and honey immediately invite you to savor it. With a little time, complex nuances of dried fruits such as raisins, dates, and apricots unfold, accompanied by freshly baked bread, butter, and subtle woody undertones.
  • Palate: On the palate, intense ripe fruits, supported by delicate wild berries and sour cherries. The texture is soft and rounded, yet lively and multifaceted.
  • Finish: Long-lasting with subtle sweetness. Notes of milk chocolate ganache and roasted aromas round off the experience and leave a touch of baked warmth.
