If you thought rum was just sunburned sugar cane, you haven't heard of the Planteray Jamaica 10 year old Special Edition. This little drop is the result of a Caribbean-French long-distance relationship with a happy ending - and entirely without kitsch.

The molasses for this rum comes from Jamaica, more specifically from two true rum giants: the Clarendon and Long Pond Distilleries. After an extended two-week fermentation (yes, longer than many vacations), the rum is distilled in both a pot still and a column still - traditionally and efficiently, like a pirate with Excel skills.

Then it's aged for eight years in ex-Bourbon Casks (200 liters - no half measures!) in Jamaica. And because France is also known to be quite beautiful, the rum spends another two years there in Ferrand Cognac Casks - at Maison Ferrand, the mastermind behind Planteray.

The best part: The rum contains no added sugar (dosage: 0 g/l). Honest, full of character, but never humorless - practically the James Bond of rums. Only with more molasses and less Martini.

  • Nose: intense and multi-layered - a complex interplay of fresh fruit aromas and deep, earthy, and woody nuances - tropical fruits meet a hint of damp forest floor and noble oak
  • Palate: A rich interplay of ripe fruit notes unfolds on the palate: Ripe peaches, sweet bananas, and dark plums form the fruity base - toasted walnuts add depth, accompanied by spicy-sweet accents such as cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, and a hint of buttery Pastries
  • Finish: Long-lasting and dry with refreshing mint, accompanied by notes of roasted coffee, slightly bitter almonds and a final hint of dark molasses
