There are only a few malts that have such complexity and smokiness as the 16 year old Lagavulin.
It starts off sweet and then develops its spiciness and peatiness with force.
Jim Murray, who Whisky author and critic writes about him: "Lagavulin should be enjoyed with caution, but with reverence. This is not a malt, that you sip lightly - it devours you!"
Tasting Notes: This is how the Lagavulin 16 year old tastes like
- Nose: strong with lots of smoke, iodine and a sweet spice - reminiscent of strong green tea, with sherry tones and creamy vanilla
- Palate: strong and rich in taste, full mouthfeel with a fruity Sweetness and Sherry - lots of peat and oak
- Finish: long, spicier Finish - the peat smoke again, plus dates, figs and vanilla

Für mich einer der ausgewogensten torfigen Whiskys überhaupt. Ein kleiner Schluck Wasser dazu macht ihn noch angenehmer.

Konnte mich noch nicht überzeugen
Bis auf Räucherfisch und Eiche fehlt es mir hier an Komplexität.Der angebliche Sherryeinfluss war für mich nicht existent.
Vielleicht versuche ich es irgendwann nochmal mit einer Flasche.

Eigentlich muss man diesen Whisky nicht bewerten. Ich mach's trotzdem, in der Hoffnung, das Lagavulin-Marketing kriegt's mit.
Der Lagavulin hat in den 16Jahren Lagerung so viel Komplexität aus den Fässern aufgenommen, dass er immer wieder ein Genuss ist, auch (oder gerade), wenn die Flasche schon ein bisschen länger auf ist und der rauchanteiol etwas nachgelassen hat.
Sogar uim Vergleich mit einem - deutlich teureren - 14 Jahre alten Lagavulin in Faßstärke behielt er nicht nur die Nase, sondern auch den Gaumen und den Abgang vorn.
Ich hab' auch immer wiedre andere rauchige Whiskys verschiedenen Alters, aber der Lagavulin bleibt hier eindeutigder Liblingswhisky.
