Portrait: What makes Whisky Magazin Deutschland 1. Ausgabe 1/2026 special

With the first issue of "Whisky Magazine Germany" (1/2026), a small dream comes true for many German-speaking whisky enthusiasts. For years, connoisseurs, collectors, and the curious had to resort to the English version – which, while sounding stylish, sometimes required a bit of concentration, especially with the second dram and complicated technical terms. Now, the mental translation between "peat," "cask strength," and "just one more dram" is over. Whisky Magazine is finally available in German. The premiere tackles a big question: What's driving the world of whisky? Between new distilleries, experimental cask maturations, and a growing global fan base, the scene is changing faster than you can say "single malt." If you want to know where it's headed, you'll find plenty of material here for long evenings in your armchair. A particular highlight is the report on Tormore, a distillery that looks as if an architect had simultaneously read science fiction and Scottish romance while designing it. Monumental, unusual, and definitely not what you'd expect when you think of a traditional distillery. The program then takes a historical turn with Edradour's 200th anniversary. This small distillery with a big history impressively demonstrates that size isn't everything—at least not when it comes to character in the glass. Two centuries of whisky tradition provide enough stories to fill several evenings. Of course, the magazine also gets to the root of it all: barley – the soul of whisky. A topic that shows there are more connections between agriculture and aroma than many suspect.

Things get a bit more mysterious with the Towiemore Distillery, whose success was – quite literally – built on sand. A story of rise, hope, and the sometimes fragile foundation of the whisky world.

And for lovers of liquid time travel, there's the Dust Values section, where old bottlings unfold their very own magic. Because sometimes the dust on the bottle isn't a sign of oblivion – but of history.

In short: This first German edition is like a good dram – informative, surprising, and with a pleasantly long finish. Slàinte!
