Rivière Du Mât
In 1886, one of the oldest rum distilleries on the Indian Ocean island of Réunion was founded on the river of the same name in the island's northeast - named after the "river of the mast", likely in memory of driftwood from ships washed ashore. In 1984, production moved to Saint-Benoît, where Rivière du Mât has since grown into the island's largest distillery, responsible for the majority of Réunion's rum exports to Europe. The sugar cane for its molasses comes exclusively from two estates on volcanic soil - Gol and Bois Rouge - giving the rum its characteristic mineral depth.

Where does the unusual name come from?
"Rivière du Mât" means "river of the mast" - likely named after ship masts washed up at the river mouth in northeastern Réunion, where the distillery was founded in 1886.
Why does Rivière du Mât taste so mineral?
The sugar cane comes exclusively from the Gol and Bois Rouge estates on volcanic soil - this mineral-rich ground decisively shapes the rum's character, similar to other well-known terroir rums.
Flavour profile
Taste: Full-bodied and spiced with caramel, tropical fruit and a mineral depth, with the aged bottlings adding vanilla and oak.
Recommended enjoyment: The aged editions neat as a digestif, the white rum works excellently in a Ti-Punch.
