Connemara is a true pure pot still whiskey from the still-young Cooley distillery – located in the west of Ireland. Cooley was only founded in 1987, yet frequently surprises with its inventiveness. Unusually for Irish whiskeys, this malt was distilled from barley malted over a peat fire.
Tasting Notes: What Connemara 12 Year Old Peated Tastes Like
- Nose: Fresh and light with distinct lemon, plus rich peat aromas, a little apple and pear – creamy malt
- Palate: Sweet with earthy peat notes – then rhubarb and vanilla, malt and wheat toast – a little smoke and charcoal
