- Mature between the Highlands and Lowlands - with both feet firmly planted in history
Portrait: What makes the Glengoyne 15 year old special
Anyone who likes whisky knows Glengoyne. And anyone who knows Glengoyne knows: This distillery doesn't do things by halves - at most, slowly. Very slowly. The stills there work at a pace that even snails politely ask if they can overtake. Why? Because time isn't money here, it's character.
Founded in 1833 (at a time when Queen Victoria was still in school), Glengoyne is picturesquely situated on the border between the Scottish Highlands and the Lowlands. In the truest sense of the word - the distillery is in the Highlands, the warehouses in the Lowlands. This makes Glengoyne probably the only whisky to move geographically during maturation.
Glengoyne is also famous for never allowing itself to be seduced by peat smoke. While other distilleries chase their malts through peaty mists, Glengoyne waves a friendly welcome – with a clean malt and pure Highland spring water from the Campsie Fells. A true individualist, then – somewhere between a monk and a Highland hipster.
The distillery has remained independent to this day, distilling its whiskies with a blend of stoic calm, Scottish stubbornness, and a keen sense of tradition. The 15-year-old is something like the house's diplomatic representative: no longer youthful, not yet quite wise, but definitely with poise.
So, if you're looking for a whisky that breathes history, preaches patience, and says "make haste slowly" with every drop, Glengoyne is the perfect choice - even without raising your glass.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Glengoyne 15 year old tastes like
- Nose: An invitingly sweet opening with ripe lemon and fresh grapefruit – tangy and lively. With some time in the glass, a warming sweetness unfolds, reminiscent of freshly popped toffee popcorn. A fragrance somewhere between a fairground and a citrus grove.
- Palate: Full-bodied and almost oily in the mouth. The sweet citrus notes of the bouquet continue and are complemented by subtle nuances of walnut and a hint of cinnamon. A harmonious combination of freshness and well-measured spice.
- Finish: Dry and elegant, with a subtle woody note of oak. Long-lasting, yet unobtrusive – a classic final accord with subtle depth.

Sehr guter Malt, der mit schöner Sherrynote sich durchsetzen kann. Hat sich im Laufe der Zeit mit fallendem Füllstand positiv weiter entwickelt. Schöner Toffifee mit Fruchtbeilage.
