Portrait: What Makes the Amahagan Peated Edition Special
On the shores of Lake Biwa, where Japan's smallest whisky distillery is located, the Amahagan Peated Edition was born. Established in 2016, Nagahama has made it their mission to create premium products rooted in handcraft traditions. With only 26 square meters of space, the team led by Master Blender Takashi Kiyoi demonstrates that size is not always crucial for the production of high-quality whisky.
The smallest pot stills in Japan are used here to create a unique malty raw spirit, which is then blended with fine international malts to produce this smoky whisky. The Amahagan Peated Edition answers the growing demand for Japanese whiskies while bringing a fresh breeze to the world of craft distilleries.
