Balvenie matures this elegant single malt for 12 years in casks of American white oak and gives it a finish in toasted, freshly charred casks of new American oak.
The Balvenie Distillery was founded in 1892 by William Grant in Dufftown and arose in the building of New Balvenie Castle. It has its own traditional malting floor, where the barley is turned by hand, and its own cooperage, which repairs and converts casks. The distillery belongs to William Grant & Sons.
Tasting Notes: What Balvenie 12 Year Old The Sweet Toast of American Oak Tastes Like
- Nose: Lots of malt and soft fudge, then aromas of citrus fruit, spicy oak and some vanilla – cinnamon and ginger over everything
- Palate: At first again the citrus fruit, above all oranges, candied orange and lemon peel, plus some cane sugar and again the fudge – then vanilla and mild honey, spicy oak again in the background
- Finish: Long and malty – vanilla, oak and spicy tones remain for a long time
