Profile: What Makes Glen Moray Chardonnay Cask Finish Special
Glen Moray had this single malt finished in ex-Chardonnay casks. After six to seven years in ex-bourbon casks it spent several months in casks that previously held Chardonnay. In the set with two glasses it is ready to enjoy together straight away.
The whisky belongs to the distillery’s Elgin Classic range. Glen Moray stands on the River Lossie in Elgin, the historic capital of Speyside. In 1897 the Thorne family’s West Brewery was converted into a distillery; today it operates four wash stills and six spirit stills and has belonged to the French La Martiniquaise since 2008.
Tasting Notes: What Glen Moray Chardonnay Cask Finish Tastes Like
- Nose: Fresh apples, plus pear drops and lemon cake – vanilla and cinnamon over everything; spicy apple and pear, key lime pie and cinnamon sugar
- Palate: Elegant and soft with distinctly fruity wine notes; caramelised tropical fruit, a hint of freshly ground pepper and sweet vanilla
- Finish: Nutty, again with vanilla and cinnamon, floral hints behind; intense and warm with tropical fruit
